3 INGREDIENTS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CORPORATE WEBSITE
A corporate website is more than just the online ‘face’ of an organization. The successful corporate website convinces visitors, generates leads, brings in new customers, creates awareness, boosts sales, and so on.
Of course, every corporate website should look good, contain contact information, and work a little decent. With the internet, we have come to the point that every organization has corporate website development on its way. Only as internet users, we have also become more mature, and an “ok” website is no longer enough, at least not to really convince us. You can make the required distinction in the following ways:
1. Faces
Research shows that visitors to a website get a better feeling when they see people. This has so much effect that hiding a face even evokes a negative feeling.
Faces play an important role in the confidence that we try to build. It is not for nothing that we label some organizations as “faceless companies.”
A professional photographer can capture your team and property nicely for a few dollars. You can use these photos anywhere on your website and for social media expressions. Of course, you can also get started with the camera of your phone, but usually, these photos don’t look professional.
2. Convincing content
Prove that you are good. You can list a lot of ‘specifications’ or ‘features’, but who do you work for? What is your track record? Are your customers satisfied? Do you have real experts in-house? The content that answers these questions is the content that actually convinces the visitor.
You will usually not find these answers in the content about products and services. But in the more awkward content. Content where you have to “expose yourself.” Think of:
- Case studies. These show what your track record is and for whom you have worked.
- White papers. Here you can talk about your solutions just like a case and you can go deeper into the matter.
- What do customers think of you? This must of course be accompanied by a name, and a photo. The same as a testimonial, but usually shorter. Do not place references in a list, but put them in tactical places on your website. Like on your ‘about us’ page or the homepage.
- Blog articles. The perfect opportunity to show your expertise. Write about what keeps you busy. Or answer the questions you get from customers through your blog. The visitors (and Google) will see you as an authority this way.
3. Clear call-to-actions
A ‘call-to-action’ is an action that you expect from the visitor. I generally see two problems with many corporate websites when it comes to call-to-actions:
- No goal or action is linked to a page. As a visitor, you do not know what the intention is, and you continue to search aimlessly again.
- Another problem is that the call-to-action is dealt with too directly. “Contact us” or “Request a quote” are actions that people don’t just do. The visitor must first be convinced. If you ask for it too early, the effect is the same as no call-to-action.
It is best to create different call-to-actions and to place the right call-to-action in the right place.
For example, the purpose of this page is for visitors to sign up for our newsletter. On the ‘about us’ page, we have another call-to-action, and that is different from a case from our portfolio.
Also, watch out for placing a different call-to-actions on the same page. Once in possession of multiple call-to-actions, many website owners are inclined to show them all. A shame, because this confuses the visitor, and the chance that the visitor will take action has become smaller.
Summary
A successful corporate website literally shows who you are, possesses convincing content, and has the right call-to-action button on every page. Sounds simple, but is quite challenging in practice. Fortunately, because this allows you to stand out from the competition.
